It is cheap, legal and sometimes, very effective if you
do not mind the trouble.
The first thing is to look at your sales staffs. You lawyer and debt collector will tell
you that it is not effective choice because sales staffs are in a position of conflict of
interest. By now, your company's practice is that sales bonus will be only given when money
is collected. Who else can be more motivated in your company to get clients pay your bills?
If the clients do not pay up, the sales people will be more worried as their little basic
salary cannot support themselves. Since your sales staffs will be travelling around, you save
on travelling expanses when they are the ones who call on the debtors.
Many companies set up their own debt collection team for hard cases. Most of them use more
or less the same strategy: bother the debtors by frequent visits. Sometimes a debt collector
can sit at the debtor's office for all day long for months and even sleep in the debtor's
house at night!! Many debtors are driven so mad that they just pay out.
